Your Japanese stays yours.
Gaijin is an offline-first Japanese dictionary, Reader, and study app. It requires no account, contains no advertising, and does not track you across apps or websites.
Data stored on your device
Lists, saved words, reading documents and position, study progress, grammar progress, onboarding choices, and preferences stay in Gaijin’s local app container. Deleting the app removes this local data unless iOS restores it from a device backup.
Text you paste, type, photograph, scan, or import into Reader is processed on device. Camera images and recognized text are not uploaded by Gaijin. The clipboard is read only after you activate a Paste action.
Anonymous product analytics
Gaijin uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand activation, feature use, study completion, retention, and coarse failure areas. Analytics can be disabled at any time in Settings; disabling it stops future collection and resets the analytics installation identifier stored by the SDK.
Events contain fixed names and coarse categories only. They never include search queries, dictionary words or IDs, translations, document text or titles, recognized images or text, sentences, list names, notes, source URLs, or free-form error messages.
Firebase automatically processes an app-instance identifier, app and device information, product interactions, session information, and approximate region derived from the network connection. Gaijin does not set a user ID, use advertising identifiers, enable ad personalization, or use analytics for cross-app tracking. Google acts as the analytics service provider. Permissions
Camera access is requested only after you choose a camera-based Japanese text action. Denying access leaves Paste, typing, file import, and Components available. Gaijin does not request tracking permission.
Sources and licences
Dictionary, kanji, stroke, example, and grammar data are bundled with the app. Sources and licences are listed in the in-app Sources screen.
Deletion and contact
Gaijin has no developer account containing user content to delete. Delete the app to erase its local data. For privacy questions, email liweba@gmail.com.
